Texting and Driving

You may think you can get away with typing a text message while driving, but you shouldn't take the risk. Texting and Driving can be one of the most dangerous things to do while behind the wheel. 2008 studies show that more than 5,800 people lost their lives due to the act of texting while driving, and over 500,000 were injured.

Also, many states are starting to ban texting while driving, and if you are caught doing it, you may have to pay a ticket for over one hundred dollars. It is illegal in eight states if you are caught using a hand-held cell phone. These states are California, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, and Washington.

  1. I agree with this, a family friend a few months ago got hit head on by a car that went into her lane while the kid was texting. Luckily no one was hurt too seriously but the truck she was driving had to be totaled.

  3. I hate when i see people texting while they drive. they arent looking at the road and they can swerve into other lanes. just put your cell phone down for 15 minutes and you will text them back when you get there.

  4. i think this a good law to enforce because there are many new, young drivers everyday who we know love to text. Many of them probably don't follow this law because they think all the horrible things wont happen to them. So more awareness should be put out in the media, so the young drivers know their consequences of texting while driving.

  5. Texting while driving should be banned; It is flat out dangerous. It is already illegal to talk on a phone while driving and texting is even more distracting. There is no legitimate reason to appeal a ban on texting while driving.

  10. Texting and Driving is happening way to much and i don't understand how a text can possibly be that important to not be able to leave it until after they are done driving. I personally don't think any test is worth dying over.

  11. I agree, texting and driving is both a serious and dangerous idea. I don't see why so many people would risk there lives to send text messages that aren't probably even that important.

  15. Texting and driving is a major problem in the United States. If I will get a text while driving I will wait until I get out of the car, am at a red light, or will have someone else who is in the car text for me. I think it is a good idea to ban texting while driving because it is dangerous to not only yourself, but to all others either in your car or on the road.

  16. I always see people texting when they drive. To tell you the truth it's mostly women who do this. It's sad because I then watch them swurve all over the road because there ignorant. People say they have the "skills" to text and drive, but they'll notice they're wrong when they end up dead or in the hospital.
